Karaoke EtiquetteThe DO’s and DON’T’s of KaraokeThe Acronym is A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E
For those who are new to the karaoke scene or who needs refresher training….read below
Rule #1: APPLAUSE Applaud when a singer approaches and exits the stage. This is especially important if this is the singers first time singing karaoke in public. This also encourages new karaoke singers. Audience support helps us all even if we suck!!
Rule #2: PARTICIPATION I encourage everyone to give it a try regardless of how good or bad you may think your singing is. We’ll clap either way. Sing along as the words appear across the TV monitor. The words will change color prompting you when it is time to sing.
Rule #3: PATIENCE I ask everyone to be patient as they await their turn to sing. Please do not complain or count the number of times others sing. I use a karaoke program on my laptop, so the names are always in order. If a new person comes in later in the night, I try to add them in as early as possible so they have a chance to sing. In other words, I make every attempt to allow all participants to sing as many times as possible.
Rule #4: LANGUAGE Please refrain from using foul language or telling jokes over the microphone. Although permissible in some venues, I find it unacceptable and would appreciate your cooperation.
Rule #5: ATTITUDE Smile and have fun!! Whether we want to admit it or not, we all dream of being a superstar on stage at some point in our lives. Now you have the chance to fulfill that dream and shine!
Rule #6: UNRULY BEHAVIOR Never go on stage and/or take a second microphone and start singing without being invited by the performer. Wait your turn. On the other hand, some songs and situations call for everyone going on stage and dancing to the song which is a different scenario.
Rule #7: SONG SELECTION Unless you wrote it, you DO NOT own it. So please do not be upset if another person sings your favorite song. After all, there are thousands of songs to choose from within my database. When choosing your song, please keep in mind the songs that have already been sung. If everyone seems to be singing slow songs, by all means please pick it up and vice versa!
Rule #8: EQUIPMENT I encourage you to enjoy yourself and have fun; however, I ask that you respect the equipment. Remember, sound equipment cost money and isn’t cheap! Please DO NOT swing the microphones or dance around the equipment. It is also not necessary to scream in the microphone. This could damage the speakers. And absolutely NO food or drinks near the touch screen monitor to avoid damage.
MY LAST RULE: DO NOT DRINK & DRIVE There is no excuse to drinking & driving. Call a friend, Call a cab…..but DO NOT drive when you’ve been drinking. It’s not worth it. I appreciate your consideration! Happy Singing!
